You don’t have to do that just in Visual Studio you can do that in

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322> Directory – through the command prompt

I too met that error while upgrading SP Server2007 to Service Pack1, then searching on google found your post and came to know that you too had same error. And your solution guided me and my error gets rectified. Thanks for this great tips.
